I recently got a bag of apples and needed something to do with them since I knew we wouldn’t eat all of them before they went bad so I decided to make some applesauce. I used some Connecticut grown Cortland apples which gave the sauce a very apple cider like taste, which was fantastic!
Ingredients:
8 Cortland apples, peeled and chopped
3/4 cup water
1 1/2 tablespoons cinnamon
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon nutmeg
Instructions:
1) After peeling and chopping apples, put in bottom of crockpot.
2) Add liquid ingredients and mix.
3) Add spices and mix again.
4) Cover and cook on high for 3.5 hours.
5) Remove cover and use masher on softened apples, making a sauce consistency.
(I LOVE this thing! You can get it at any kitchen supply store)
6) Cover again and cook for another 1/2 hour then let sit for 10 minutes to thicken.
My son loved this so much that he had two giant bowls and still wanted more! He now asks for “apple” all the time so I defiantly need to make more very soon. The apples mixed with the cinnamon and nutmeg gave it wonderful flavor. I let it sit in the fridge to cool down but you can serve warm out of the crockpot if that is what you prefer.
