I hope you all had a happy new year! The first post of 2014 is for a smoky homemade BBQ sauce. I used to always have a bottle of sauce in my fridge but realized one day in the middle of dinner that I forgot to stock up. I tried making my own and it has been a staple ever since. It’s much better than the bottled stuff. This is great for any kind of meat but really brought out the flavor in BBQ chicken.
Ingredients:
3 cups ketchup
3 tablespoons white vinegar
2 tablespoons worcester sauce
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 1/2 tablespoons garlic and onion powders
2 tablespoons cumin
1/2 tablespoon chili powder
Instructions:
1) Put ketchup in large saucepan and put on medium low heat.
2) Add vinegar and worcester sauce and mix well. The sauce will look very watery but that will change once you add the dry ingredients.
3) Add the brown sugar and spices. Mix well then adjust to taste. If there is a vinegary aftertaste, add a little more brown sugar. You can also add more garlic or cumin if you like. Once the taste is to your liking, put it on low and let it simmer for a few minutes.
