There are some meals that are classic. They are so delicious that even hearing the words make your mouth water. That’s exactly what happens with Fried. Chicken. This version comes out nice and crispy. Served up with a side of mashed potatoes and green beans and you are in for an amazing meal. 

Ingredients: 

2 tablespoons salt

2 cups and 6 tablespoons buttermilk (make your own here)

3.5 pounds bone-in chicken breasts and drumsticks

3 cups flour

2 teaspoons baking powder

1/2 teaspoon thyme

1/2 teaspoon pepper

1 teaspoon garlic powder

4 cups cooking oil for frying

Instructions: 

1) Pour salt and 2 cups of buttermilk into a large sealable bowl or bag. Add the chicken pieces and let marinate for at least an hour.

2) Mix all the dry ingredients together and add the remaining buttermilk. Mix until you get a sand like mixture.

3) Shake excess off of chicken pieces and coat with the flour mixture. Make sure it’s fully covered.

4) Heat oil in Dutch oven on medium-high heat till 375 degrees. Add chicken and fry till deep golden browned on both sides. About 4-5 minutes on both sides. Remove with tongs and let rest on paper towels for a few minutes.
