Ever since I first saw an egg in a hole I knew I wanted to try it and I’m so happy that I did because I love them! It took some experimentation, but I found that the Egg in a Hole Bagel is the way to go. I love using bagels because I find it gives more to soak up the egg yolk with. I use plain bagels but you can use any kind that you like, this can work with an onion bagel to an everything bagel! You will not regret making this for yourself as it is perfect for breakfast or a late night snack! If you are looking for an easy way to make the hole bigger, you can find this cutter here.
Ingredients:
1 bagel half
1 egg
Salt and pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1.5 tablespoons butter
1/8 cup shredded cheddar
Instructions:
1) With a cookie cutter or a glass top, cut a larger hole into the bagel middle.
2) In a skillet set to medium, melt the butter. Place the bagel face down in the pan for a few minutes to toast.
3) Flip over and crack the egg into the middle. Sprinkle egg with salt, pepper and garlic powder. Cover and let cook for 2-3 minutes, until white is set. If you want a firmer egg yolk, cook for an additional minute or two.
4) Remove cover, top with cheese and re-cover. Cook for another minute till the cheese melts. Remove from pan and serve.
