My son loves Disney Junior! It’s become the station in our house that usually gets put on before anything else to see what’s on. These are the top ten reasons why I love Disney Junior and you should too!
10) No Pushy Commercials
Whenever I happen to channel surf through the kid stations and end up on Nickelodeon or even regular Disney I just get bombarded on commercial breaks with TOYS TOYS TOYS and SUGAR SUGAR SUGAR! I can see why kids are always begging for the latest and greatest thing…..because they can never get away from it. Disney Junior really only plays commercials for their other shows, I don’t see commercials for toys or candy bombarding little kids.
9) Educational Shows that Don’t Push
There is another channel that I have called Baby First TV and I can understand why my son can only tolerate a few minutes of it, some of their educational shows feel like school. Sit, pay attention! The educational factor of shows like Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Jake and the Neverland Pirates make them ingrained into the story line so you don’t get the vibe that you’re getting graded at the end of the show.
8) Keeps a Toddler Entertained
I don’t know what it is about the shows on Disney Junior, but my toddler can be entertained for the full 25 minutes that they are on, which is great at 6 am and you’re still waking up yourself. It gives me a little time to get myself together before the day starts.
7) Characters to Look Up To
Doc McStuffins is a little girl who wants to be a doctor just like her mom. When she cares for her stuffed animals, she gives out health tips that apply to everyone. If you won’t listen when your parents tell you to cover your mouth, maybe you’ll listen to Doc.
6) Tolerable for Adults
I find that I can sit through Doc McStuffins or Jake and the Neverland Pirates without the urge to grab the remote to change the channel immediately. The songs aren’t overly corny and the characters aren’t extremely annoying like on other shows. I don’t know what is going on with Yo Gabba Gabba, but I don’t like it.
5) Actual Parent Involvement
I notice on Sofia the First and Doc McStuffins, their parents are actually involved in the story line. Henry Hugglemonster has great adventures with his brother and sister, along with his parents. I never understood cartoons where the parents just aren’t there. They are little kids, at least pop your head in and check on them.
4) Cute Mini Shows
After the end of the regular shows, there are little mini 2-3 minute shows that play. Big Block Singsong is a big favorite at our house and you know you watch a lot when you know which mini show is coming on based on what time and day it is.
3) Live Activities
Recently there was a Doc McStuffins live tour that travelled around the country which was a great way for kids to have a fun day with their parents, to get moving and meet “Doc”. There are live events constantly that are great ways for families to do something that everyone will enjoy.
2) Perfect Themes for Parties
The shows make an easy theme for birthdays. Pirates, princesses, a stuffed animal/doctor, the clubhouse. Once your child chooses what they like, the rest falls into place so easy.
1) Great Family Bonding Time
I find that it’s nice at the end of the day when dinner and tubs are done and the pj’s are on that we can sit and watch a show together. My guy runs and plays all day exploring outside and needs downtime at the end of the day. We sing the songs and laugh. It’s a great way to spend time together that calms us down before stories and bed.
