One of the best feelings as a child is when the final bell rings in June and your school year is done. SUMMER!!! It’s a universally awesome feeling that we all remember. When we were kids, summers were full of being outside all day and tons of activity and fun. Now with the growth of technology, it’s hard for us to give our kids the same childhood we had, especially for working parents that can’t take a lot of time off to watch the kids. But there is a way to give your kids the same low-tech fun summers that you grew up with and it involves one of the biggest staples of our generation: sleep away camp.
I’ve heard from so many people that they would love to send their kids to summer camp just like the ones they went to when they were kids but they didn’t know they existed anymore. But they do still exist and they are just the thing to give your kids a sense of independence, while giving you piece of mind that they are not burning brain cells on YouTube all day.
Settled in the beautiful landscape of Washington, Connecticut, your sons and daughters can have a fun and educational time at Camp Awosting for boys and Camp Chinqueka for girls. These camps give your children everything you remember from camp and provides a safe environment to grow socially and mentally while taking part in so many activities. I’m talking archery, horseback riding, Go Cart racing, arts and crafts, theater, swimming; the options are endless.
But lets break down the math. If you are a working parent who has to pay for childcare in the summer and you are worried about how this could work, this could actually save you money. The price of daycare/babysitter for several weeks can match up to the price here but that price also covers food and laundry service. So factor in not having to feed or wash clothes for your kids for 2 weeks to 2 months, depending on what package your choose and you could end up saving money. You’ll save on food alone. I love my kids but they can EAT and I spent all last summer wondering where all the food was going. Camp could be less money than having the kids home all summer devouring your kitchen. Plus they will be making tons of new friends from all over, some campers travel all the way from Europe to spend their summers here! How cool would it be to have your child come home and have a brand new friend from France to talk to?
I know it can be scary to think of sending your babies away but these camps get fantastic reviews and have children continue to return year after year. Better yet, you can see how amazing this summer will be for yourself! You can check out a video for the boys camp here and you can see the girls side right here. All the happy smiley faces is good enough reason for me!
Are you a local Connecticut resident and not quite ready to do sleep away camp yet? Don’t worry, they also offer days camps! Boulder Ridge and Eagle Rock offer the same fun activities so your kids can still have an awesome time but can come home at night.
No matter what, if you are tired of worrying about what your kids will do all day in the summer and don’t want that time spent lounging or wandering the neighborhood while everyone is at work, then please check out these camps and remind your kids how awesome summer can be!
