When I first got engaged, I would try to keep my engagement ring spotless. I was meticulous about going to the jewelry store and getting it shined up so it was always sparkling. After my wedding, I got pregnant pretty quick and ring cleaning fell to the wayside. I have rings with a lot of nooks and crannies so I always worried that I wasn’t getting them as clean as I thought. I have a found a method that works and my rings haven’t been this clean since I first got them!
I warn you. This method will gross you out. I felt so disgusted that I walked around with that much grime in my ring but like I said, this works. You will need about 1/2 cup of hydrogen peroxide.
NOTE: You can only use this on jewelry with real gold or silver. If you use this on costume jewelry it will erode the finish.
Pour the peroxide into a cup and drop your jewelry in. Within a few seconds, it will start bubbling and a bunch of gunk will come to the surface.
I had to do this twice to get everything out but once you do the initial cleaning, you should only have to do this sporadically to keep everything clean. Once I took the rings out of the peroxide, I gave them a good rinse in hot water and let them fully dry before putting them back on. They looked so much better.
If you are nervous about putting your rings into straight peroxide, you can dilute the mixture with a bit of white vinegar. Hopefully your rings will sparkle again!
