Alfredo sauce is a classic. Who doesn’t drool over a big ole plate of fettuccine alfredo? This Easy Alfredo Sauce is quick to make and only requires a few ingredients so you don’t need to make a grocery run. I like using the skillet to make this as I think it cooks more evenly but you can absolutely use a saucepan also. The most important thing to remember is that your cooking temperature is very important in this. Butter has a high fat content and if the heat is too high, it will separate from the milk and looks very watery. You want a nice, creamy thick sauce that will coat your pasta so if you notice a greasy looking mix, lower the heat and it should mix back together again.
Ingredients:
1/2 cup butter
2 cloves garlic, minced
3 cups whole milk
Salt and pepper
1 tablespoon oregano
1 tablespoon basil
1 cup grated parmesan
Instructions:
1) In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add garlic and cook till fragrant. Slowly whisk in the milk until all combined.
2) Lower heat to medium low and add salt, pepper, basil and oregano. Cook and until thickened and then add the parmesan cheese. Whisk until combined.
Note: If your sauce begins to separate, your heat is too high. Lower it slightly until the butter and milk combine again.

How long does it take for your sauce to thicken?
For me, it took about 15 minutes. It depends on your stovetop. I prefer low and slower because it stops the fat from separating.
