Every person I know has that one chore that they absolutely hate. The one that they keep putting off until it becomes overpowering and you HAVE to do it. Personally, I can do laundry, dishes, dusting all day long but I hate, HATE, to clean my bathroom. It’s just the worst and embarrassing sometimes since it’s a room that is used very regularly in households. I have, however, found a cleaner that makes this job a lot easier.
I recently returned from eight wonderful days in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and upon returning to my home and getting back into the regular routine I have come to a pretty obvious conclusion.
Vacations are vital for a person well-being.
I didn’t even realize how stressed out and mentally fried I was since I was living that way for so long. A day and a half down south and my chronic back pain had lessened to a dull roar till it was non-existent. My teeth grinding and headaches were gone. I was amazed that I could go out to dinner without worrying about getting an anxiety attack during the meal.
The most important part was that I was able to enjoy my child more. I was able to dedicate time to him without worrying about a deadline, or housework, or bills. I learned new things about him and watched him laugh and explore. I was able to relish his first trip to the beach and it was a wonderful memory.
It is really hard to worry about life worries when you are sitting under a beautiful tree on the river listening to music in a gorgeous sunset. True story, that tree has been around since the Civil War. The restaurant we were at used to be a river trading post way back when.
I hope that we can all take a time out when we need it, whether it’s a beach vacation or a trip to get a manicure. Don’t forget to take time out for yourself or the stress will make the good parts of life not so enjoyable.
If all else fails, nothing beats sitting outside on a nice day and just breathing.
Anyone with the patience or just the desire to feed their drama llama can attest to the insanity that is the “Mommy Message Boards”. I am a member on a certain baby raising website (anyone who’s had a kid in the last 10 years has probably popped on this site at one time or another), and it amazes me the level of treachery and online eye gouging that goes on! It has the inane ability to send you back to high school ready to watch two girls go at in the hallway after lunch.
I have learned many new words and phrases that I never knew existed since joining these various boards…..and there is a board for everything. Moms who Vaccinate; Moms who Don’t; Moms with Large Families; Moms with Only Children; Moms who Just Want to Lock Themselves in a Closet with a Bottle of Wine; etc, etc. I have learned about Sanctimommies (the mom who tells you how to parent you child regardless of whether you asked) and Extended Rear Face car seating (most of the diehards what to do it till their child is literally sitting like a giraffe in the backseat but honestly, it’s your kid and your choice as long as you are following the laws of your state).
The worst part of these boards is that is takes all the pettiness and “reality show” cattiness that happens when certain women get together and it exasperates it by giving you a forum to talk without any tone or voice reflection. There is a sarcasm font (italics) but someone can read something you mean as a light hearted to-each-their-own thing, and you get ripped apart because a mother thinks you are being facetious about her parenting style and proceeds to tell you what an awful person you are and how you should kill yourself because your child is better off without you. I wish I was exaggerating but I have read that on more than one occasion, and not from young girls. Those low blows usually came from women in their 40’s or older with multiple children who should really at least claim to know better. I also saw a women get her account deleted for going toe-to-toe with the stay-at-home-mom queen bee with seven children that didn’t like what she had to say so she reported her enough to get her booted!
The point of this is to say, why do you need validation for your parenting? If you love your children and are feeding, clothing, housing, playing and most of all LOVING them why do you give a shit what some faceless nut on the internet has to say? It’s your home and family, as long as you are completely confident in the choice you make who cares if someone says otherwise.
I am Mommy! Hear me Roar!
Fantastic nail polish color today! This actually came out when one of the Shrek movies was in theaters so you might have to go to Amazon to find this one. It’s called “What’s with the Cattitude?” [Read more…]
The title says it all, while I love Sephora and spoiling myself once in awhile there are times where money can be better spent or I just don’t have the time to drive the extra way. CVS is nearby, has a ton of options and is cheap! These are my favorite things from the drugstore.
I will admit that I am a huge fan of HBO’s Game of Thrones. The story lines, the action, it sucks me in. My hubby is also a huge fan, it’s one of the few things he watches regularly besides SportsCenter or the NFL network. Whenever I read a story recapping or discussing the last episode some poster always decides to throw out “Read the books so you can find out what happens.”
I really love these for a side dish or even as the main course. They are quick and easy, not to mention insanely delicious! The best part is they are very kid friendly. My son loves them! I boil and cut them up for him and I leave them plain. When I make them for myself if I’m alone I bake them in the oven so they get nice and crisp then I serve with a little bit of butter, some marinara sauce and a sprinkling of parmesan cheese. Amazing!
These come in many different options now so you really can find any that work for your taste. They have american cheese along with cheddar and jalapeno. They also have a sweet potato version for those that don’t like white potatoes. The options are endless so enjoy!!
I have to share this amazing eyeliner! Maybelline Master Precise by Eyestudio. It’s easy to apply like a pencil but has the look and feel of liquid. A cat-eye is amazingly easy with this. I do my top line with this and line my lower eye with a waterproof liner (right now I’m using a liner from Mally). It only takes me minutes to do my eyeliner thanks to this product! Highly recommended! [Read more…]
So I had the chance to watch This is 40 over the weekend and going in I was expecting good things. I was a fan of Knocked Up when it first came out and I liked a lot watching it again when I was pregnant.
When I was growing up, the Disney Princesses of the early ’90’s were in full force. Ariel, Belle and Jasmine were everywhere and I loved them. They wanted to explore the world and read books and choose her own husband. Getting older I starting watching “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and felt all sorts of ‘I am woman, hear me roar’. This recent controversy with Disney and their beautification of Merida from “Brave” made me think about the role models that are out there for young girls. For every Merida or Buffy, there is a Kardashian or a Bella Swan. Either you are a vain airhead or you are so dependent on a man that you make yourself sick and are willing to kill yourself when he breaks up with you. The Twilight obsession really bothered me when I saw how girls would swoon over this Edward/Bella love affair and I’m sitting there internally screaming “He’s abusing her emotionally!” [Read more…]
