I was asked to try out a new children’s book delivery service that helps kids grow their home libraries easily. I fell in love with Bookroo pretty quick, their website is open and welcoming and they make it easy to learn about the program. How it works: you go to the site where you choose between board books, which come 3 books a box, or picture books, which are 2 books a box. Then you pick the payment package you want and that’s it! Once a month, your child will get new books sent right to your house. I chose the picture books since my son is older.
The packaging is wonderful. The box comes right in the mail and each book is wrapped up. It was like a mini birthday when he got to open them. He was so excited to see new books and couldn’t wait to read them.
The books that were sent were “The Bear Who Shared” by Catherine Rayner and “Dream Away” by Julia Durango and Katie Belle Trupiano. Both books were age appropriate and my son enjoyed both of them, which meant many, many readings. Overall, I’m pleased with the service. It’s great if you have a voracious reader and can’t get to the bookstore or library a lot. I think it’s also helpful if you were like me as a kid and couldn’t make up your mind in the bookstore or library and browsed forever! This cuts out the choice and lets kids get surprised.
What I really like is this is a family business by three brothers and their wives. They all had a passion about education and reading and wanted to make it easy for others to get their children reading as much as they can. They have a great post on their blog about how important reading is to a child’s future, see here.
If you are interested in trying out Bookroo, you are in luck. Readers of my blog can use the link here and get $4 their first order!
